Translation-Related USCIS RFE: A Response Checklist

A translation-related Request for Evidence (RFE) identifies information or corrections USCIS needs. It does not establish that the rest of the case is sufficient. Read every item in the notice and use its deadline; a replacement translation addresses the translation issue, not the entire application.

Identify the issue before ordering a replacement

Make a list of the documents named in the notice and the correction requested for each. Possible issues to check include omitted content, missing or incomplete certification, unreadable source copies, and differences between the translation and source.

Do not assume that every RFE requires the same replacement packet. If the notice requests another civil record or additional evidence, translation of the existing record alone may not answer that request.

Check the new translation package

  • A readable copy of every requested source page, with any written reverse side.
  • A full English translation, including the text in fields, seals, stamps and annotations.
  • A translator certification addressing accuracy, completeness and language competence, with the identifying information requested in the applicable instructions.
  • Clear identification of the document translated, so the legal team can match the source, translation and statement.
  • Preserved names and dates from the source, with discrepancies brought to the legal team’s attention.

A translator-created summary is not a substitute for the requested full translation. Do not change the source information to make it agree with another record.

Use the notice’s filing instructions and deadline

Record the response deadline and the submission instructions directly from the RFE. Confirm the filing method and destination, allow time for review and delivery, and keep the records of what was submitted. Avoid planning around a generic number of days.

USCIS rules require the requested response materials to be submitted together. The legal team should review the whole response, including requests unrelated to translation, before submission.

Arrange the translation work with Ichundu

Send the relevant notice excerpt, readable source documents, the required language direction and the deadline. Share the information needed to identify the translation issue. Ichundu will confirm translation scope and delivery; certification is quoted separately. Request a quote or read the certification and notarization guide.
